Advanced diagnostic tools play a key role in modern podiatry by helping providers identify problems earlier and plan treatment more precisely. For example, technologies like digital X-rays allow our Greater Houston podiatrists at Neville Foot & Ankle Services to quickly evaluate bone alignment, fractures, arthritis changes, and other structural concerns with clear, detailed images—often in just minutes. With faster results and improved accuracy, patients benefit from more targeted care, fewer delays, and treatment plans designed to support long-term foot and ankle health.
What's the difference between film and digital X-rays?
In our practice, we find the digital process is faster than traditional radiography, uses less radiation, and provides higher-quality images.
How do digital X-rays work?
In the traditional process, light-sensitive film is exposed to the X-ray. Digital imaging uses a detector system in combination with the X-ray. This allows us to see and manipulate the images on a computer immediately after taking them.
When Might Our Podiatrists Use Digital X-rays?
A clear diagnosis is the foundation of effective foot and ankle care—without it, treatment can be delayed or miss the real source of the problem. Digital X-rays help provide that clarity by offering detailed, immediate images that guide decision-making and support more confident, targeted treatment. We may recommend digital imaging to:
- Diagnose fractured bones or joint dislocation.
- Demonstrate proper alignment and stabilization of bony fragments following treatment of a fracture.
- Look for injury, infection, arthritis, abnormal bone growths, and bony changes seen in metabolic conditions.
- Assist in the detection and diagnosis of bone cancer.
- Locate foreign objects in soft tissues around or in bones.
- Guide surgery, such as spine repair/fusion, joint replacement, and fracture reductions.
When our seasoned clinical experience is paired with innovative diagnostic technology, you'll benefit from clearer answers and more precise treatment from the start. This combination helps our team identify the root cause faster, tailor care to your specific needs, and support the best possible outcome, so you can get back to moving comfortably and confidently.
