Foot and ankle pain has a way of sneaking up on you. Maybe it started as a dull ache after a long day at work, or a twinge you noticed after playing pickleball with a friend.
You told yourself it would go away. But weeks later, it's still there. And getting worse. It’s time to get it checked out.
That's where diagnostic imaging comes in. Getting an accurate picture of what's happening inside your foot or ankle is the foundation of every effective treatment plan. Without it, even experienced podiatrists are working with incomplete information.
At Neville Foot & Ankle Centers, we believe you deserve more than a best guess — you deserve answers. Our Greater Houston podiatrists use state-of-the-art on-site imaging technology to see exactly what's causing your pain. Whether you're dealing with a sports injury, a chronic condition, or unexplained discomfort that's kept you off the pickleball court too long, diagnostic imaging helps us get to the root of the problem quickly and accurately — so we can get you back to the life you love.
Why Accurate Diagnosis Is the First Step Toward Real Relief
One of the most frustrating parts of foot and ankle pain is not knowing what's wrong. Many conditions look and feel similar on the surface but require very different treatments. A heel that hurts every morning might be plantar fasciitis, or it could be a stress fracture, a nerve entrapment, or a bone spur. Treating the wrong condition doesn't just waste time; it delays treatment, which can make a condition worse.
Diagnostic imaging removes the guesswork. When our podiatrists can see what's happening beneath the skin in the bones, soft tissues, tendons, and joints, they can make confident, informed decisions about your care. That means less trial and error, faster relief, and a treatment plan that's built around your specific condition.
At Neville Foot & Ankle Centers, we've spent nearly 40 years helping Houston-area families stay active and pain-free. That kind of track record starts with getting the diagnosis right.
Imaging Technologies Available at Our Houston-Area Offices
Neville Foot & Ankle Centers offers several types of diagnostic imaging right in our offices, so you don't have to travel to an outside facility or wait days for results. Our imaging tools include:
-
Digital X-rays. X-rays give our podiatrists a clear view of the bones in your foot and ankle, allowing us to detect fractures, bone spurs, arthritis, and structural abnormalities. Digital X-rays produce high-resolution images quickly and expose patients to less radiation than traditional film X-rays.
-
Diagnostic ultrasound. Ultrasound imaging is particularly useful for evaluating soft tissue structures, including tendons, ligaments, and fascia. It allows our team to assess conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon injuries, and soft tissue masses in real time, giving us a dynamic view of how tissues move and respond.
-
3D imaging and advanced scanning. For a more detailed look at foot and ankle anatomy, 3D imaging captures precise, multi-angle views that help our team evaluate bone alignment, joint mechanics, and structural issues that flat, two-dimensional images may not fully show. This technology is particularly valuable for surgical planning and for patients with foot deformities or complex conditions.
-
Gait analysis. Understanding how you walk is just as important as seeing what's inside your foot. Our gait analysis technology helps identify biomechanical issues — like overpronation or uneven weight distribution — that may be contributing to your pain and increasing your risk of injury.
Conditions We Diagnose With On-Site Imaging
Our Houston-area podiatrists use diagnostic imaging to evaluate a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including:
-
Stress fractures and acute fractures
-
Plantar fasciitis and heel spurs
-
Achilles tendon injuries and tendonitis
-
Ligament sprains and tears
-
Arthritis and joint degeneration
-
Flat feet and high arches
-
Bunions and hammertoes

Sports injuries and overuse conditions
Because we offer imaging in-house at all four of our locations, there's no need to schedule a separate appointment at an imaging center. You can often receive your images and discuss your diagnosis in the same visit, which means you spend less time waiting and more time getting better.
What to Expect During Your Imaging Appointment
If Dr. Neville or one of our podiatrists recommends diagnostic imaging during your visit, there's nothing to worry about. Most imaging procedures are quick, painless, and performed right here in our office.
For digital X-rays, you'll simply stand or sit while the image is captured. The whole process takes just a few minutes. Diagnostic ultrasound involves a handheld device that glides gently over the skin with a small amount of gel. There's no radiation involved and no discomfort. Gait analysis typically involves walking across a pressure-sensing mat or platform while our team observes and records how your foot contacts the ground.
After imaging is complete, your podiatrist will review the results with you, explain what they found in plain language, and discuss your treatment options. We believe our most informed patients get the best outcomes, so we take the time to make sure you understand exactly what's going on and what we recommend.
